Pro-Health International is a Christian, non-profit voluntary health care organization with a focus on uplifting the health status of the less privileged, neglected rural populace in Africa. Since its inceptio, Pro-Health International (PHI) has been involved in over 170 periodic short- term (1-2 weeks in duration) healthcare outreaches Nigeria, Ghana, Burkina Faso, Zambia, The Gambia, Mali, Niger, Burundi and Malawi .

Our History
Pro-Health International was founded in 1991 by a group of concerned medical professionals led by Dr Iko Ibanga. Having been involved in medical missions sponsored by International organizations, God gave him a vision to start an organization that would involve more Nigerian health care professionals. He was greatly inspired by Dr Bob Schoffstall. By combining local and foreign health care providers, he saw the potential for a greater collaborative effort of cultural exchange and practice. Foreign physicians would impart their advanced technical know-how while local physicians would be more familiar with the problems facing local healthcare. Thus a combined mission would provide a perfect balance. What started with 3-4 missions in a year has grown to 25-30 missions annually.
Our Vision
To take the gospel through medical care to every rural area in Africa and to set up indigenous medical mission ministries in every nation in Africa that would offer physical and spiritual healing in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Dr Iko Ibanga Executive Director, PHI
Mission Statement
To provide through voluntary efforts qualitative and quantitative health care and hope to the poor and less privileged in rural areas of Africa at little or no cost to the recipients with the love of CHRIST.
HIV / AIDS PREVENTION PROGRAM
In response to the global HIV/AIDS epidemic, Pro-Health International carries out an HIV/AIDS prevention program targeted at high-risk populations such as youth, young couples, and pregnant women in this underserved population. Our activities include:
- Mass Advocacy. The thousands of patients who visit PHI’s free medical-surgical camps at different locations are given public talks on HIV/AIDS prevention each day.
- Behavioral Change Communication for school children and peer counseling for youths. Our HIV/AIDS team visits schools located within the communities where we work to educate students and teachers on prevention strategies.
- Meetings with local leaders to promote leadership-driven activities against HIV/AIDS.
- Voluntary Counseling and Confidential Testing (VCCT) to people at our treatment camps.
